Honors Convocation was a snazzy affair. All the honorees came in dressed in their fanciest clothes. Gym was there. He wore a tie. Gym received the Eugene Bell Senior Award for Excellence in Computer Science. In other words, he is the best senior the CS department has to offer. And seniors are the best year of students college has to offer. Therefore, Gym is simply the best overall student the Computer Science Department has to offer. Not that surprising actually.
Gym received a plaque with his name on it. There is a plaque with his name on it in the soonish-to-be defunct Computer Science building. He was satisfied, especially since he wanted the equivalent junior award last year. His family came. They were proud. They ate Margs. Gym saw Dr. Allen singing the fight song. Truly shocking stuff
When asked for comment on his achievement, Mr. Gym gave a firm, but jovial, "It's about time"
BEAR Day was an intellectual affair. All the researchers came in dressed in somewhat fancy clothes. Gym was there. He presented his research. Gym's research was titled "Using Genetic Algorithms to Tune N-Body Simulations." He worked all semester on developing a genetic algorithm to do some wacky Pounds stuff and was clearly fantastically prepared for his BEAR Day presentation.
Several professors stopped by his poster to ask questions and become enlightened like never before. Most of them were math professors, but, as Gym later learned, one was a Biology professor. The word "genetic" must've been particularly alluring. Luckily for them, Gym was prepared to answer any questions they had and enlighten them like they'd never been enlightened before.
When asked for comment on his BEAR Day experience, Mr. Gym gave a hopeful, but resigned, "I thought there would be Chick-Fil-A vouchers"
