Article 1: Freshman Engineering Design Competition

The Freshman Engineering Design Competition took place at 9:00 am on Friday and lasted until around 11:00. The freshmen engineering students participated in a variety of competitions including an obstacle course, a pulley race, and the main event, a tug-of-war competition. One of my bet friends, Ian Van Riper, was on the team that won the tug-of-war. They had a genius design with a machine that was stationary, and instead of pulling itself back with wheels, it stuck itself to the ground and pulled the opposing machines towards it until it won by default. It was really fun to watch and a really energetic atmosphere to be in.

"We really enjoyed working on this project and it felt great to win with a design that was different than all of the others." -Ian Van Riper

Article 2: GH/GD Final Project Presentation

The other event that I went to was a final project presentation for some students double-majoring in Global Health and Global Development. It was a fascinating presentation where they discussed their adventure into the circuit of Macon, GA, teaching kids and citizens about what goes in to making all sorts of items that we take for granted. They explained the process of making jeans, along with explaining their trip through Macon's libraries and school systems. It was an awesome project and the presentation gave a great look into what goes in to projects like this, as well as how it affected the greater Macon community.
