Freshman Engineering Expo BearDay Lunch

MERCER

BearDay 2018

I am not sure why only one slide show will show up at a time. If you could help me fix it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Freshman Engineering Expo>

I was unfortunately sick the morning of engineering expo and could not find where they were holding the competition as I had arrived late. I did though get pictures of the the different events, just the practice versions. For the Freshman Engineering Expo, the students were given a kinex car kit. They were then given an obstacle course to build and design their cars for, then they compete against eachother to see who had the best design and build.

As you can see In the slide show above, the first picture shows the hill-climb. This platform is adjustable to different slopes to see which car has the best power, traction, and speed ratio. The objective is to be the first kinex car to the top.

The second picture in the slide show is that of the obstacle course. A kinex car from two teams is placed side by side and they race across the track to see which car was built best for the obstacles. In this race, the car that reaches the other side the quickest is the winner.

The last picture in the slideshow above is that of the tug-of-war track. This course called for a different approach than that of the other two previously. This course called for pulling your opponents car to your side of the course. This battle is one of my favorites because it needs a lot more strategy in order to win.

Lunch on the Historic Quad>

I got to go to the lunch on the quad despite being sick, although I did not actually eat the food because I did not want to pay for the food, nor did I feel like eating it while I was sick. It was an absolute beautiful day out which is surprising for BearDay which is usually quite hot, humid, and full of gnats.

In the first picture we have students enjoying the great Macon Spring weather. They are having a pic-nic out on the historic quad. It seems that they too did not want to pay for lunch.

The next picture is that of the band that was planning to play for the Mercer Lunch. One of the members stated, "I have a great time performing for the luncheon and have done so for several years, with luck I will continue to do so." The band adds a nice atmosphere to the event and allows everyone to be able to listen to music and not feel so obligated to socialize.

The last picture shows the entire lunch layout. It is surprising how many individuals can come and enjoy lunch out on the Quad. How could they not with the wonderful Spring weather that presented itself for BearDay. The tables continued to get fuller and fuller as the mid-afternoon went on. Jesse Mercer would have been proud to see all the Mercer BearDay support.
