100 players begin the match flying in a military cargo plane traveling on a randomly generated path over the map. Players decide when to jump from the plane and from there they skydive to their selected location where they search for weapons, clothing items, equipment, and health. As the game continues, the map slowly begins to shrink forcing players into contact with one another. The last survivor wins the game. There are also duo and squad modes consisting of 2 man teams and 4 man teams respectively.
PUBG is a first/third person shooter. Its game mechanics are very different from most other first or third person shooters, so it still takes time to get used to. The third person perspective allows the player to see more of their surroundings while the first person allows for better accuracy in shooting.

Snipers are great if you can land your shots. Scopes must be found, they do not come with any weapon by default. If you find an 8x scope, be smart, equip it on an assault rifle, not your sniper, so you can get shots off quicker.
Assault Rifles are the most ideal weapons you can find. They hold large magazine capacity, can be used at short, mid, or long-range (esepcially effective long-range with a 4x or 8x scope), and they can hold a large number of attachments. Very powerful.
Sub Machine Guns are VERY effective at close range with their high magazine capacity and fast fire-rate. Throw that bad boy on full-auto and let loose. Requires no markmanship or skill of any sort. Highly recommended when raiding buildings.
Shotguns: Similar to snipers, they're fantastic if you can land your shots, which can be difficult at close range. Granted, all you need to do is land one or two shots, as they are very powerful.
Pistols are a last resort before your last last resort (melee weapons). They have low magazine capacity and aren't as powerful as your bigger guns. They will get the job done though.
Yes, that is a pan. Melee Weapons are used only in the event you haven't found a gun yet, or you burnt through all of your ammo. It is harder to melee in this game than it is to build a rocket in real life, while blind-folded, and fly to Mars. A pan will deflect bullets. Find a pan.
